At Niro's Gyros you're sure to get the most meat for your money. Even the smallest gyro option is topped with enough tomatoes, onions and gyro meat to fill two pitas, and the Italian Beef Sandwich is bursting out of its bun. Old Illini memorabilia mingles with vintage Coke ads and "I Love Lucy" posters on the walls, giving the restaurant a hodgepodge, but nostalgic feel.
The owner, Ben, moved with his parents from Greece to Chicago at a young age. He came from a place where people lock their gyro recipes in a safe, to a city where people devour gyros by the thousands. When he heard that Champaign had a high demand for gyros, he decided to move here in 1999 and open a place of his own. To concoct the perfect gyro recipe, Ben went back to his origins, calling friends and relatives in Greece until he came up with a recipe that satisfied his high standards. While Niro's is best known for their gyros, there is something for all tastes on the menu, from Chicago dogs and Philly cheesesteak, to burgers and salads!
